Our story

At Brown & Church, craftsmanship is more than tradition—it’s our heritage. Founded in 1976 by Sam Brown and Bill Church, our brand was created to serve the refined men’s specialty market with neckwear that honors timeless style and American workmanship. Yet, our roots in the industry stretch much further back.

Our story is woven from generations of makers and brands that helped define American menswear. We proudly continue the legacy of yApre’ Cravats, introduced by Herbert Bergheim in the late 1930s to suit the bold and expressive gentleman, and Keys & Lockwood, a distinguished neckwear house dating to 1881. Together, they represent a lineage of artistry, individuality, and integrity that few companies can match.

In 1980, we brought that spirit home—relocating from Manhattan, New York to Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, a town with deep roots in textile and apparel craftsmanship. Here, surrounded by the enduring pride of American manufacturing, we blend old-world skill with modern technology to create neckwear that reflects both our history and our vision for the future.

Each piece that leaves our hands carries the character of our people and the story of our brands. We remain devoted to quality, authenticity, and the belief that true craftsmanship still matters. What we make—and how we make it—is, and always will be, important.
